Nationwide crackdown targets synthetic drugs
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- We're learning more about a national crackdown against manufacturers, distributors and vendors of synthetic drugs.
The Drug Enforcement Agency wrapped up a news conference Thursday morning discussing the results of the 100-city synthetic designer drug raid.
The DEA and other law enforcement agencies are raiding smoke shops and other sellers of synthetic marijuana and other synthetic drugs -- like bath salts -- in about 100 cities nationwide.
President Obama signed a bill into law earlier this month that bans the sale, production and possession of many of the chemicals found in some of the most popular synthetic drugs.
Drug agents and health professionals have been warning these new designer drugs, including synthetic marijuana products sold as incense and bath salts. They haven't been tested or approved for human consumption and can mimic the effects of cocaine and LSD.
