Window changers rescued from 35th floor at Vdara
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Four workers are safe after being rescued from the 35th floor at Vdara on the Las Vegas Strip on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the county said the call came in just before noon.
The workers became trapped on the west side of the building when a crane's emergency brake failed.
Clark County Fire and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue quickly put a plan into place to rescue the workers by sending one member of a high-angle rescue team at a time from the roof of the hotel to the basket where the workers are trapped.
The workers were placed in a harness and lowered to a landing area on the third floor.
By about 3 p.m., all four had been safely rescued. They were checked out, but none required transport for medical attention.
A spokesperson for MGM Resorts, which owns 50 percent of Vdara, said the crane that malfunctioned is owned by MGM but operated by a third party.
MGM Resorts released the following statement after the rescue:
"Clark County rescue teams completed a successful rescue of four workers who were in a crane lift basket at Vdara's 35th floor. No one was injured. We appreciate the excellent efforts of the fire department personnel. The matter will be reviewed by hotel safety officials as part of the company's standard policy."
Action News has a crew at the scene and will update this story as new information becomes available.
