Hoover Dam suicides becoming disturbing trend
Clark County, NV (KTNV) -- There was another apparent suicide Monday from the bypass bridge near the Hoover Dam.
This is the third and possibly fourth jumper since the bridge opened in 2010.
It's possible the fourth, because when rescue crews were recovering a body two weeks ago, they found another body at the base of the bridge, which they suspect was also a jumper.
The Hoover Dam has long attracted people looking to commit suicide.
NDOT told Action News they suspected this new bridge would also become a target.
They even looked into the possibility as they were designing it. They looked at steps San Francisco officials had taken with the Golden Gate Bridge, to see if they should do more to stop jumpers here in Nevada.
Action News learned NDOT officials decided against taking action; no suicide phones and no extra fencing.
If they knew this could be a problem, why didn't NDOT do anything? It's an issue Action News Reporter Blake McCoy has been investigating.
Action News will have a special report Tuesday night on Action News Live at 11 p.m.
