Victim in wheelchair killed in northwest Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A person crossing the street in a wheelchair was killed in the northwest part of the Valley on Friday evening.
It happened near the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Maverick Street at about 6:40 p.m.
Police pulled up to find a motorized scooter with the seat ripped off.
Investigators say a car was headed west on Cheyenne when the driver failed to see a man in a motorized wheelchair attempting to cross the road. That man, an 86-year-old from Las Vegas, was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead.
The intersection was shut down as police investigated the crash.
The driver stayed at the scene and police say he was not on or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Police are frustrated as the death toll continues to increase on the road.
