Jury convicts shooter at teen party of murder
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- A 21-year-old man has been convicted of murdering a 14-year-old Nevada girl at a party in Sacramento in the summer of 2010.
A Sacramento Superior Court jury convicted Jaivonne Flenory-Davis on Thursday of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Lanajah Nachelle Dupree. The Sacramento Bee reports that he is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 7.
Authorities say Flenory-Davis opened fire on a crowd of teenagers exiting a party on July 11, killing Dupree of Sparks, Nev., who had been visiting friends in the Sacramento area. The gunfire also wounded a 17-year-old girl, who was shot in the arm.
An argument between gang members apparently sparked the shooting.
Sheriff's detectives have said they do not believe the victims were the intended targets or involved in the dispute.
