Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas is due for another area code. Reports from the North American Numbering Plan Administration indicate we'll run out of 702 numbers by the year 2014.
So preparations are underway now to implement a 2nd area code in the Las Vegas area.
Only new residents would be affected, but everyone will have to start dialing 10 digits for local calls.
Residents say compared to other states it's about time.
"The state only has two area codes, 775 and this one," said Max Heartfelt. "What's California got, like 900?"
It's actually 30, with 17 in the Los Angeles area alone.
A decision from the public utilities commission of Nevada should come this fall.
