1 killed, 1 arrested in crash at Alta & South Pavilion Center
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- One person is dead and another person is under arrest after a single-vehicle accident this morning on Alta Drive near Joe Willis Street on the west side of the Valley.
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, 21-year-old Ralph Homer Corpuz was driving a 2005 Ford Mustang westbound on Alta Drive when he lost control.
The car crossed the median, striking a tree as it did so.
The car came to a stop in the eastbound lanes of Alta Drive. Both the driver and the passenger were transported to University Medical Center.
The passenger was pronounced dead by attending medical personnel at UMC Trauma. The driver was released from UMC and arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
The identity of the deceased will be released by the coroner once notification is made.
The is the 66th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction for 2012. The collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigation Section.
