Murder suspect dead after attempting to steal a plane in Utah
St. George, Utah (KTNV) -- A murder suspect is dead after attempting to steal a plane while evading police in Utah.
It all happened Tuesday morning at a small southern Utah airport located just across the border from Nevada and Arizona.
Officials say Brian Hedglin was wanted in connection with the murder of a woman in Colorado Springs.
According to a city spokesperson, 40-year-old Hedglin tried to steal a Skywest airplane from St. George Municipal Airport.
The former Skywest employee reportedly scaled a razor wire fence, boarded the airplane, crashed it into some cars in a parking lot and shot himself in the head.
A spokesperson for Skywest said the incident caused minor damage at the terminal. Some personal vehicles were damaged and St. George police said injuries were reported as well.
Hedglin was wanted in connection with the death of Christina Cornejo in Colorado Springs. Police were doing a welfare check when they found her body last week.
Her death was ruled a homicide.
