Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was on the scene of a hostage situation.

It began Saturday morning and lasted several hours at Budget Suites off Rancho Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard.

Metro told Action News a woman was barricaded inside with an infant, and refused to come out.

They said 34-year-old Kimberly Kardell called police, threatening to kill herself and her one-year-old child.

SWAT and crisis negotiators were able to get Kardell to come out and she is now in custody. Police said the baby is okay.

While in custody, Kardell will be evaluated for her suicidal threats. She faces several charges including assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping with a weapon and child abuse.

The child has been placed in protective custody with Child Protective Services.

Southbound Rancho was closed at Smoke Ranch Road, near the North Las Vegas Airport, while crews were on the scene.
