Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- In this kind of heat, it is very important to pay extra attention to your children.

Heat can kill. And although this seems obvious and we talk about it every year, it still happens -- a child is left in a hot car and dies from the extreme heat.

The Henderson Fire Department and other sponsors held an event yesterday to stress the dangers of leaving young children in hot cars.

On average, 33 children die each year from extreme heat after being left in a car.

And when it is this hot outside, it only take a few minutes for an unattended child to suffer serious medical problems.

Officials say that if you see a child or a pet left unattended in a car and you can't free them, call 911 immediately.
