Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas tied a record-high temperature on Tuesday, hitting 114 degrees.
The last time the area saw a high of 114 on July 10 was 2003.
An excessive heat warning went into effect at 10 a.m. Tuesday and extends until 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
As temperatures skyrocket, several cooling stations are open to give locals a spot to cool down.
Air conditioners are working overtime this week and NV Energy says they are prepared to handle the extra energy being used.
To keep your costs down, NV Energy recommends turning your air conditioner up a few degrees, closing your blinds and limiting use of your stove, oven and clothes dryer.

Pet owners should be careful to keep animals safe from heat stroke. When it's this hot, veterinarians say owners should keep pets indoors and be aware of signs of heat stroke, such as excessive panting and vomiting.
