Excessive heat warning in effect in Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- An excessive heat warning is in effect in Las Vegas as temperatures threaten to break records.
The excessive heat warning went into effect at 10 a.m. Tuesday and extends until 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
Temperatures are expected to hit 114 in Las Vegas on Tuesday, and could spike to as high as 116. The record high temperature for July 10 is 114 degrees, so that mark could very well be met or exceeded.
As temperatures skyrocket, several cooling stations are open to give locals a spot to cool down.
Air Conditioning units will be working overtime this week, and NV Energy says they are prepared to handle the extra energy being used. To keep your costs down, NV Energy recommends turning your AC up a few degrees, closing your blinds and limiting use of your stove and oven.

Pet owners should be careful to keep animals safe from heat stroke. When it's this hot, veterinarians say owners should keep pets indoors and be aware of signs of heat stroke, such as excessive panting and vomiting.
