Nevada road deaths up in first 6 months of 2012
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- State officials say more people have died on Nevada roads during the first half of 2012 compared with the same six months last year.
Nevada Department of Transportation officials count 129 traffic deaths through July 2, which is up 9 from the first half of 2011.
Washoe County saw traffic fatalities drop to 11, down from 13 in the same period in 2011.
Even with the uptick, Nevada traffic deaths are falling from their peak in 2006. The state saw 432 deaths that year, and 246 in 2011.
Traci Pearl of Nevada's Office of Traffic Safety says avoiding deadly crashes ultimately depends on each person on the road.
Nevada Highway Patrol officials say it's critical to buckle up on each trip, never drive under the influence, and pay attention.
