Man arrested in death of woman that jammed highway
RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Reno police are investigating a fatal shooting that shut down part of U.S. Highway 395 for more than seven hours through the morning commute on Monday.
Police have arrested 29-year-old Jeffrey Rodriguez in the shooting of the 31-year-old woman. Police say he knew the woman, but are waiting to notify relatives before releasing her name.
Reno police Sgt. Dave Della said officers were called at 2:35 a.m. after a traffic accident was reported and someone began shooting at passing motorists on the highway north of Reno.
Officers found the shooting victim next to a car in the highway median and were trying to resuscitate her when the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reported Rodriguez lives in Stead and is a registered sex offender.
