Lake Mead, NV (KTNV) -- High winds capsized and sunk multiple boats at Lake Mead on the Fourth of July.
A National Park Service spokesman said at last count, seven boats either capsized or sunk in the early afternoon.
Severe weather began at about noon and lasted until 3:30. High winds led to high waves.
More than 20 people were rescued. They were all wearing life jackets.
Another incident happened earlier in the day when a man suffered a leg injury from a boat propeller. He was taken to University Medical Center. His condition is not known.
The National Park Service wants to remind boaters to check the weather before heading to the lake, be prepared for conditions, wear life jackets, and make sure multiple people on board know how to operate the boat.
Conditions at Lake Mead are expected to remain windy through Thursday.
