Driver charged with DUI in fatal pedestrian crash on Boulder Highway
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Police continue investigating a deadly hit and run accident that happened Tuesday night in front of the Eastside Cannery.
A 50-year-old Reno man was killed while trying to cross Boulder Highway at about 11p.m.
The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk.
The driver of the car, 44-year-old David Nieto from Las Vegas, allegedly fled the scene. Police caught him a short time later. Nieto has been charged with DUI and hit and run.
"It's painful to know another life has been taken away just wanting to get across the street," says Eddie Spellman, who lives nearby.
There's been at least three fatal traffic related accidents in front of Eastside Cannery in the past year.
People who walk in the area say there should be a crosswalk in front of the property.
"They really need a street light or something because people cross here all the time," said one person who spoke to Action News.
This is the 63rd traffic related fatality Metro has responded to in 2012.
