Man killed crossing Boulder Highway after leaving Eastside Cannery

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) – A 50-year-old man was killed late last night after leaving the Eastside Cannery.

He was hit while crossing Boulder Highway, just south of Harmon Avenue. The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk according to the police.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, a 2004 Nissan Sentra driven by 44-year-old David Nieto was traveling north on Boulder Highway when the car struck the pedestrian.

Nieto slowed down but did not stop but witnesses were able to describe the car to police.

LVMPD stopped the driver shortly thereafter. The driver has been booked on charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the coroner's office after next of kin has been notified.

Boulder Highway was closed in both directions during investigation of the incident

This was the 63rd traffic-related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2012.
