North Las Vegas employees speak out after being laid off
North Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Jail employees who were just let go in North Las Vegas are speaking out.
The layoffs took effect July 1, and Monday was the first weekday since the change occurred.
Many employees laid off at the jail had worked for the City of North Las Vegas for over 10 years.
"It's a harsh reality," says Beverly Walton, who was employed with North Las Vegas for about 20 years.
The corrections facility will merge with the Las Vegas City Jail by the end of the week. Already some inmates have been transfered.
City Manager Tim Hacker says those employees who are qualified could be rehired if an opportunity presents itself.
