North Las Vegas man prepares for last day on the job
North Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Layoffs in North Las Vegas go into effect this Sunday, when the new fiscal year begins.
More than 100 employees will be laid off, most of them from the North Las Vegas Detention Center. That facility will be consolidated with the City of Las Vegas jail.
"It's pretty drastic," said Tim, who is losing his job. "My daughters don't quite understand all this year but it certainly has me worried and I can't let them see that."
Tim has about 19 years experience in law enforcement, and nearly 12 with North Las Vegas.
He's now being forced to retire early.
"Like any career, it's kind of a part of you, it's a little part of my identity, you know?" Tim said. "The biggest part of my identity is my family, but it's what I did, and I'm going to miss it."
Officials for the city of North Las Vegas say the situation could have been worse had they not recently declared a fiscal state of emergency.
The jail merger will happen sometime next week. Some officers are employed until July 5, allowing them to help with the transition.
