Nevada taxable sales up 5.1 percent in April
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Taxable sales in Nevada rose 5.1 percent in April compared to the same month last year.
The state Department of Taxation reports Nevada merchants sold $3.5 billion in goods on which the state collected $272.4 million in gross sales and use taxes, which are up 2.6 percent over April 2011.
The report released Thursday says taxable sales rose in 13 of Nevada's 17 counties.
Clark County, the state's population hub, saw sales increase 4.9 percent, while sales in northern Nevada's Washoe County were relatively flat, up just 0.2 percent.
Several sectors reported noticeable gains.
Sales of cars and auto parts and durable goods were both up about 10 percent.
Accommodations rose 13.4 percent, while sales at bars and restaurants posted a 3.5 percent increase.
