Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The school bus driver involved in the accident that killed 11-year-old Kaylee Derks in March has been cleared by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The accident happened on March 16, 2012. Derks had just gotten off the bus in a neighborhood near Ann Road and U.S. 95 and stepped into the path of the bus as it was making a turn.

Derks was a fifth-grade student at Dean la Mar Allen Elementary.

The bus driver had been driving with the school district for five years and had a clean driving record. He was filling in that day on that route for another driver who had the day off.

The accident upset many people in the community and accusations were directed at the school district over the safety of certain bus routes.

LVMPD did not say who was at fault, only that the bus driver was not.
