New safety standards for portable cribs issued
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Parents can sleep a little better now knowing that their kids will be sleeping safer.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has approved tougher standards for portable cribs and play yards.
The commission has recalled a mesh crib like the one that killed Linda Ginzel's son more than a decade ago. She says her son was at his childcare facility when the crib collapsed on top of him.
The CPSC has already adopted new safety rules for regular cribs. toddler beds and baby bath seats. The new regulations for portable cribs and play yards will go into effect in December.
Consumers are reminded to keep an eye open for products recalls. And also be mindful of secondhand products that may have been manufactured before new standards took effect.
