Neighbors in disbelief after son allegedly kills his mother
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Neighbors are in disbelief after a deadly shooting on their street. That's because the man arrested for the crime was the victim's son.
Many in the neighborhood say they knew the family had problems, but they never thought it would come down to police arresting a man for allegedly killing his mother and shooting his father.
Neighbors are identifying Kathy Wilson as the woman shot and killed Wednesday morning.
"I just heard pop, pop, pop! Like four shots, that I heard. And I look out the window right away and I just see a guy running that way," says Gilbert Cunanan, a neighbor of the Wilson family.
Police found her and another man just before 5 a.m. inside a car, both with gunshot wounds. The woman was declared dead at the scene and the male victim was taken to Sunrise Hospital.
"She was just always very bubbly, always saying hi to everybody. Her attitude never changed," says one neighbor who asked not to be named.
If pictures are worth a thousand words, one seems to show Kathy how neighbors describe her. Fun, full of life, and willing to always stand by those she loved.
"Friends that I haven't seen in like six, seven, or eight years come by and they're like, 'we heard something happened to Kathy," says one neighbor.
Police arrested 28-year-old Jeff Wilson, who faces charges of murder and attempted murder.
"I just know that they had some problems, the dad and the son. I did see them arguing a couple of days ago," says Cunanan.
"I don't know what the motive might be, but he was extremely paranoid," says a neighbor.
Neighbors seem to think drugs may be what caused this. They call Jeff a recovering meth user who started backsliding.
Despite the trouble in her son's life, it seems Kathy again never stopped standing by the son she loved.
"She was always supportive of them even though there was trouble there. You know?
I mean everyone has trouble, but she never stopped being a mother," says the neighbor.
The woman's exact cause of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office in the coming days.
