NHP identifies woman killed after tire blowout on SUV
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The woman that was killed Wednesday afternoon after a tire blowout on a sports utility vehicle has been identified as 39-year-old Blanca P. Estela of Santa Ana, Calif.
A 9-year-old female was airlifted to University Medical Center Trauma Unit in critical condition and four other passengers were transported by ambulance to the same hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to a report from the Nevada Highway Patrol, a 2006 silver Dodge SUV was traveling northbound at about 12:15 p.m. June 20 on Interstate 15 towards Las Vegas.
The left-rear tire suffered a partial tread delamination.
The driver attempted to stop the SUV by applying the brakes. This caused the SUV to veer right and eventually overturn after the vehicle left the pavement.
Estela was seated in the third-row passenger seat of the SUV. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner investigator.
