Coroner identifies child presumed drowned at Lake Mead

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Clark County coroner has identified the young child that presumedly drowned in Lake Mead on June 15 as 23-month-old Jacob Carter from Henderson.

The National Park Service Rangers responded to a 911 call at about 11:15 a.m. on Friday that a toddler had disappeared in the area of the Las Vegas Boat Harbor.

The child was located at about noon by divers assigned to the search effort. The toddler showed no signs of life. Despite efforts of emergency personnel, the child did not survive.

At this time, it is presumed that the child drowned. However, the Clark County coroner's officer will determine the official cause of death.

This is the first fatality of the year at Lake Mead Recreational Area.
