North Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The North Las Vegas Police Supervisors Association has filed a lawsuit against the City of North Las Vegas in district court.

The union is claiming that the city has broken the law and breached the contract between the union and the city.

The North Las Vegas city council passed a resolution to declare a fiscal state of emergency on June 1 after several meetings with the police and firefighter unions.

The city said that it was necessary because of a $33 million budget shortfall.

The resolution canceled cost of living raises, uniform allowances and holiday sell-backs for the police and fire unions.

The unions are claiming that the city has never given an honest portrayal of the true deficit.
