Family sues Costco for local man's death
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The family of a man killed by Metro officers has filed a civil lawsuit against the store where it happened.
Erik Scott was shot by officers who responded to reports of a man with a gun inside the Summerlin Costco.
The ruling was ruled justified during a coroner's inquest. The family dropped their suit against Metro in exchange for Metro's agreement not to pursue reimbursement for the department's legal fees. The family claims Costco was negligent. The lawsuit claims an employee escalated an otherwise calm situation and thus altered how police responded to the scene, ultimately causing their son's 'wrongful death'. Costco did not comment to Action News on this case.
