Teen accused of killing stepfather appears in court on separate charges
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The 19-year-old charged with killing his stepfather this week was in court Friday morning on unrelated charges.
Tyten Scanlan was arraigned on charges of battery with substantial bodily harm stemming from an earlier fight with a neighbor.
Scanlan is due back in court next week for a hearing on the murder charge.
The teen is accused of fatally shooting his stepfather near Windmill and Eastern on Wednesday morning.
The shooting happened in the midst of a family dispute. Tyten's mother said he and his stepfather had a tumultuous past.
"There was just a lot of animosity that over the years built up inside my son," Rebecca, the suspect's mother, said.
The victim was later identified as 44-year-old Blackie Pele of Las Vegas.
