Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Should the health inspector have to tell a restaurant not to serve spoiled food to the public? You'd hope not. But that's exactly the message inspectors issued to the folks at Asian Garden on Nellis and Stewart.

They had to stop doing business when the Southern Nevada Health District slapped them with 59 demerits. Anything over 40 is automatic closure.

Asian Garden is now back open but Contact 13 wanted answers about the long list of violations.

If your Kung Pao tasted a little soapy in mid-May, that might be because of a rather unorthodox choice of cooling spots. There was chicken that was cooling in a mop sink.

Your soda may have been a little slimy because of a pink mold-like substance inspectors found in the ice machine.

The meat slicer and grinder were both dirty, but stored as clean.

Inspectors say the can opener was dirty with sticky food debris, and food was left out to cool for way too long.

The restaurant was told to toss sprouted onions and wilted cabbage they were storing near the back door.

The manager told us he spoke very little English, so he had this employee serve as our interpreter, even though the man told us it was his first day on the job.

Asian Garden was reinspected a little more than a week after it was shut down. It's now operating with a 6 demerit A-grade.
