Family and neighbors of accused molester in shock
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV ) -- A family is in shock after learning a young father is accused of molesting his own children.
Army Reservist Victor Torres, 29, is behind bars. He was arrested on suspicions of sexually abusing his three young children. The alleged victims are just three, five, and nine years of age.
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Torres isn't denying the allegations. In his disturbing arrest report, Torres says he is "sorry for what he did, and admitted to it, because it was the right thing to do."
Police say the abuse has been going on for years. It reportedly happened in the home where Torres and his family currently live, as well as previous home addresses.
The arrest report says one of the children admitted to investigators that "he didn't tell anyone about the abuse because he was scared."
It was another one of the kids who described some of the sexual misconduct to an aunt. She alerted the children's mother, who called 911.
Action News spoke with Lee Gonzalez, the grandfather of the alleged victims.
"It's a nightmare," he said in tears. "This is something you don't prepare for because you don't think this will happen. There didn't seem to be any signs or red flags. We didn't notice anything different with the children. Now, we just want to help them heal. I hope Victor Torres pays for what he did."
Many neighbors are also shocked and angry.
"I only ever saw him drinking in his driveway," says Gunnison Hunt. "It didn't seem like he paid much attention to the kids. This is horrible. How can anyone do that to small children? All of our kids in the neighborhood play together, which makes it really scary."
Hunt wonders how the mother of the children didn't notice anything sooner.
"She didn't see any signs with her kids?" she questions. "It was happening in the house. As mothers, we're the first defenders of our children."
