Henderson man sentenced to 30 years for kidnapping girl
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A 29-year-old Henderson man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for kidnapping a 7-year-old girl and forcing a cab driver at knifepoint to drive them to California.
Senior U.S. District Judge Roger Hunt handed down the sentence Friday to Matthew Hayward, who earlier pleaded guilty to kidnapping, carjacking and child pornography charges.
Authorities say Hayward was living at his cousin's house when he kidnapped a girl living there on March 26. When his car broke down, police say Hayward called a cab and ordered the driver to take them to California.
He then left the driver and the girl in an isolated area near Barstow, Calif., and drove off with the cab. He was arrested in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Investigators say they found child pornography on his cellphone.
