Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A Silverado High School softball coach faces several charges after district police say he was involved in a sexual relationship with a student for months.
43-year-old Albert S. Hernandez was arrested Thursday without incident and booked at the Clark County Detention Center.
Hernandez faces two counts of sex between a school employee and a student, three counts of distributing child pornography and one count of production of child pornography.
According to police paperwork, a 17-year-old female student at Silverado were involved in a relationship over the past few months. During that time, they had sex and sent explicit photos via text message and a texting app.
The student was a member of the softball team and named the unofficial "team manager" during their reported relationship.
The girl's parents eventually became suspicious of their daughter's relationship with Hernandez after hearing their phone calls and alerted police. That's when authorities obtained warrants to access text messages and cell phone data.
That cellphone data is what led police to the discovery of the photos and messages that revealed details of the sexual relationship and pornographic photos.
Police interviewed the student, who told them the relationship was consensual and identified the photos as depicting her and Hernandez, both separately and together.
The Clark County School District says Hernandez has been a coach at Silverado since 2009. He is no longer employed with the district.
Hernandez also coached in a city league, but it was not clear which one.
Other possible victims or anyone with information on the case is asked to call school district police at 799-7830, ext. 5262.
