Loud noise prompts Southwest pilot to abort flight
BURBANK, Calif. (AP) -- A Southwest Airlines flight from Burbank to Las Vegas was aborted after an unusual noise was heard in the back of the plane during takeoff.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the aborted flight occurred Monday afternoon.
Airline spokesman Paul Flaningan says a loud noise was heard from one of the engines of the Boeing 737, so the pilot shut down that engine and returned to Bob Hope Airport.
Flaningan said the aircraft landed without incident.
He said mechanics were inspecting the plane to determine what happened. The 41 passengers on the flight have boarded another plane to Las Vegas.
