Casino employees welcome 2012 World Series of Poker
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- It’s an event card players look forward to all year, the World Series of Poker. The two-month tournament began Sunday at the Rio hotel and casino.
Sunday’s game was exclusively for casino employees like Ryan Frechette, who has become a student of the tournament.
Frechette moved out to Las Vegas from Boston last year with the hopes of making it big as a professional poker player
“Even to be a part of the World Series of Poker is absolutely amazing,” said Frechette. “I could not actually speak to how I actually feel of my excitement. It is exploding inside me right now.”
More than 600 casino staffers participated in the employees-only event, each vying for a chance to compete for the World Series of Poker Champion's Bracelet.
The tournament is described as the largest gaming event in the world, bringing a big boost to local economy with thousands of people expected to play over the next several weeks.
