LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A Nevada state judge is due to meet with attorneys for a New York-based group hoping to rescue a dog that killed a toddler at home in Henderson last month and send it to a sanctuary outside Denver.
The Nevada Supreme Court this week halted action to euthanize the 6-year-old mastiff-Rhodesian ridgeback mix, named Onion, pending action by Clark County District Court Judge Joanna Kishner.
The closed-door meeting is Friday in Kishner's chambers. A decision isn't expected immediately.
Henderson city animal control officials had planned to euthanize the dog after it bit and killed the 1-year-old boy April 27.
The Lexus Project of Oceanside, N.Y., wants the judge to reconsider her ruling that the group has no ownership right to the dog.
The family that owned the animal isn't commenting.
