Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- A 71-year-old pedestrian was killed at about 7:15 a.m. May 25 when a sports utility vehicle veered off the road and struck the pedestrian on a sidewalk.

A 2008 Jeep Commander, driven by 78-year-old Chester Budd, was traveling westbound on Hampton Road near Point Pleasant Drive off of Sun City Anthem Drive when he left the roadway.

The pedestrian was struck from behind and carried a short distance. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is not known why the driver left the road.

The incident is still under investigation. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors. Budd has not been charged in connection with the pedestrian's death at this time.
