Classmates remember local teen killed while jaywalking
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A pedestrian killed while jaywalking near Nellis and Flamingo late Tuesday night has been identified as 17-year-old Bryan Navarro.
The teen was a junior at Las Vegas High school.
Now messages saying "R.I.P. Bryan Navarro" can be seen on Twitter and Facebook.
"It's really affecting a lot of kids," says Las Vegas High student Brian Johnson. Johnson was not friends with Navarro but says a lot of kids at school are reacting to the teen's death.
This is the 15th pedestrian to die in an auto-pedestrian accident occurring in Metro's jursdiction in 2012. Metro says there have been 53 fatalities so far this year; compare that to only 29 total deaths for the entire year of 2011.
Navarro's death remains under investigation. Initial reports suggest the accident was Navarro's fault for not crossing at a crosswalk. However, the driver was arrested for DUI and booked into CCDC.
