North Las Vegas, NV (KTNV)- North Las Vegas holds its second crosswalk enforcement in a month. This one is part of the valley wide Joining Forces Campaign. But police say people still aren't getting it.

"Drivers aren't paying attention and you can see it for yourself," said Sgt. Randy Carter of North Las Vegas Police. "They're not yielding for me when I'm in the marked crosswalk."

Sgt. Carter, dressed in street clothes, crossed at several mid block intersections throughout the city. And officers pulled over and cited several drivers who were not stopping for him.

These stepped up patrols are unfortunately due to the increase in pedestrian fatalities throughout the valley.

Police say the only way the number of pedestrian involved accidents will go down is if people get off their phones, slow down and pay attention to their surroundings. Officers say the same goes for pedestrians. They are also susceptible to citations.
