Soaring temperatures keep AC companies busy
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The noise of a running air conditioner is the sound homeowner Audie Cheng feared he might stop hearing this weekend.
He told Action News, "It's OK. I just want Donovan to take a look at one of the compressors. It's making a funny sound."
Donovan Rhode said his bosses at Quality's 1-hour Air Conditioning and Heating got so many service calls, they called on extra crews.
"Our call volume was crazy," said Rhode.
"Normally we would only have three running, but we saw the weather, so we were trying to get extra guys and we had.. seven guys going. And each guy had eight or nine calls at least. I arrived at my first call at 9 am and I did not finish up until 1:30 this morning."
Rhode said Cheng did the smart thing. His maintenance call may have prevented a costly repair.
"Maintaining the system? Under a hundred dollars. Replacing? In the thousands."
Fortunately for Audi Cheng, his two air-conditioning units checked out fine. Rhode told him, "Freon level looks good. The only concern you might have with it in the future is your fan."
Cheng said, that's cool for now. He is not ready for triple digit temperatures just yet.
"It's too early." said Cheng. "Last year it came, end of May, June. This year. April? Really? I don't know. It must be election year. It's hot."
