Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Criminal defense attorney David Amesbury, who was involved in the local HOA scandal, was found dead in Sacramento on Sunday.
57-year-old Amesbury pleaded guilty on Oct. 24 for his role in a scheme to fraudulently gain control of a condominium HOA in the Las Vegas area. The scheme was set up so HOAs would direct business to a law firm and construction company.
Amesbury pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud.
Ten people have pleaded guilty in the case, including Amesbury. All of those who pled guilty struck deals to cooperate with federal prosecutors who were looking to charge higher-level players in the scheme.
Amesbury was found severely beaten on the side of the road in Henderson on Nov. 16, 2011. However, federal investigators and local police say that the beating was not related to the case.
Nancy Quon, who was also involved in the case, was found dead inside her Henderson residence on March 20.
