Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A parade of hauler trucks, carrying this weekend's NASCAR race cars, shined under the bright lights of the Strip Thursday night. Fans acting as paparazzi, snapped pictures in awe.
It's the start of what's to be a big weekend in Las Vegas.
The NASCAR races are expected to bring about 100,000 people to the track on Saturday for the Natiowide race and 150,000 for Sunday's big race.
Their impact is far-reaching. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority expects them to contribute approximately $100 milllion to our local economy.
Adding to that spending boost is another group of fans in town.
This year, the NASCAR races overlap two big college basketball tournaments. Las Vegas is hosting both the Mountain West Conference and Western Athletic Conference.
The events are helping to fill hotels, casinos, and restaurants. As a result, the LVCVA predicts March to be an even stronger month than usual in terms of tourism.
Last year, NASCAR weekend alone generated about $136 million non-gaming economic activity.
