LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The Southern Nevada Water Authority board has approved a rate hike that will raise residential customers' bills by an estimated $5 a month.
Fees approved at a meeting Wednesday are based on the size of a customer's water line. Small businesses will see an increase of about $36 per month, while a large resort would see its water bill climb by about $2,200 a month.
Water authority officials expect the price hike to generate about $300 million over the next three years to fund infrastructure and pay down construction-related debt.
The water authority is the wholesale supplier for several water districts in the Las Vegas valley. Individual districts will decide exactly how to divide the increased cost.
New fees are expected to show up on customers' bills in May.
