Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A local military couple returned from Afghanistan just in time to suprise their young son at school on Valentine's Day.
Amber and Ian Stanley have been deployed in with the U.S. Army for more than a year. They coordinated ahead of time with their son's school, Walter Jacobson Elementary in Las Vegas, for a once-in-a-lifetime surprise.
Ashton's second grade class was busy making Valentine's Day artwork on Tuesday afternoon when his parents walked in the door. He cheered and ran to hug his mom and dad as the classroom witnessed the emotional reunion.
We asked Ashton what it was like not having his parents home for so long.
After a pause, Ashton said, "It was like a cookie without the chocolate."
Ashton's grandparents, aunt and cousin also joined the reunion, along with a few school administrators.
"It was just something so special for Ashton," Principal Amber Brookins said. "How could we say no?"
Amber and Ian Stanley are back for just two weeks before returning to Afghanistan. During their time at home, they'll also celebrate their wedding anniversary.
