Safe Routes to School comes to Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - Clark County Schools are being proactive about students' safety on their way to and from school.
The Safe Routes to School program held a training session today for seven local schools. All seven identified several issues regarding walking and biking to school safely.
From, no crossing guards to heavy pick up and drop off traffic, these issues will hopefully be resolved with help from the Safe Routes for Schools program.
"They're going to identify some of the issues at their school, and this afternoon they're going to work with some of the community members, public works and law enforcement agencies and make it doable for their school," said Hayden Ross, a facilitator for Safe Routes for Schools.
The goal is to fully implement these new plans by next school year.
The ultimate goal of Safe Routes to School is to promote walking and biking to school and increase students' physical activity. But parents say this can't be done until they feel it's safe for their kids to do so.
