Red Cross coordinates Las Vegas-area fire safety event
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Almost 200 boy scouts, faith-based group members and other volunteers went door-to-door in four Las Vegas-area neighborhoods to share American Red Cross information about fire safety and prevention.
Red Cross southern Nevada volunteer coordinator Donna Robinson says participants fanned out from several fire stations to spend three hours Monday hanging information fliers on doors of homes in communities that saw more than their share of fires during the last year.
The event was one of many held in the area on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday to mark the late civil rights leader's call for community service.
Robinson says adults with children as young as 12 took part.
