Police urge people to "party smart" on New Year's Eve
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Las Vegas Metro Police Department, along with the Rape Crisis Center and STOP DUI, have teamed up for the "Party Smart Campaign" in Las Vegas this New Year's Eve.
They urge partygoers to be careful and use good judgement this upcoming holiday.
Reported sexual assault cases tend to increase during the holiday season, especially involving young women.
"Typically around the holidays and New Year's we see an increase with younger females, 20-29," said Lt. Dan McGrath with LVMPD's Sexual Assault Division.
He says most cases involve "excessive alcohol consumption being a major factor."
The Rape Crisis Center has a hotline number for people coping with sexual assault. It's open 24 hours. Simply call 702-366-1640. Or, if you're in immediate danger, call 911.
