Designated Drivers offering free rides this weekend
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Designated Drivers Foundation will be providing free, safe rides home to those who have had a little too much to drink on New Year's Eve.
Captain Morgan, the spiced rum maker, has donated $25,000 to the Designated Drivers Foundation to provide these rides from 8 p.m. Dec. 30 to noon Jan. 1 to any adult ages 21 and older in Las Vegas.
According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic and Safety, the average number of deaths from alcohol-related crashes on New Year's is almost 150 percent higher than than the rest of the year.
Last year, 84 people were arrested in Las Vegas on DUI charges on New Year's Eve. In 2009, 72 people were arrested.
Captain Morgan wants to ensure that Las Vegas have a safe, free alternative to getting on the road after a night out.
The Designated Drivers Foundation was founded in Las Vegas by Billie Smith and has since expanded throughout Nevada and Phoenix, Arizona.
