Suspect identified in officer-involved shooting in east Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The suspect that was shot by a member of the Gang Crimes unit of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on Monday night has been identified.

His name is Bernard Pate, age 37.

The shooting happened in the 4400 block of East Karen Avenue.

The Gang Crimes unit was conducting a proactive patrol of the area when the officers observed a person in a courtyard acting suspicious.

When the officers attempted to speak to him, he ran. Shots were fire and the suspect was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A gun, believed to be the suspects, was found next to his body.

The officer involved in the incident was placed on routine administrative leave. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
