Henderson, NV (KTNV) - A pharmacist who found himself staring into the barrel of a shotgun is describing his encounter with a 60-year-old man who allegedly shot at police.
The ordeal started at the NDC pharmacy on Monday morning, on Horizon Ridge near Green Valley Parkway. That's where police say Anthony Rogers walked in with a loaded gun.
Scott Ricci, in charge of the NDC pharmacy, says the intruder claimed to be in pain and suffering from cancer.
"I look up and the gentleman had come through the door with a shotgun raised, pointing at me," said Scott Ricci who recalls staying as calm as possible.
Ricci says the robber immediately made his demands clear and didn't appear to have the intent of hurting anybody inside the pharmacy.
"He said something to the effect of, I'm in pain and I want all of your Percocet," explained Ricci. "Then he changed his tone of voice a little bit. He said this isn't a hoke, give me all of your Percocet. I'm like fine, whatever you want."
According to Ricci, Rogers popped two pain killers on the spot and looked uncomfortable and confused.
"The fact that he's nervous with a shotgun pointed at me made me pretty nervous. My biggest fear was that he was going to accidently shoot me," said Ricci.
Police say Anthony Rogers didn't start blasting off shots until a chase that ended at The District shopping center.
Five Henderson police officers eventually took Rogers down by gunfire.
Police later shifted their focus to the listed Henderson address of Rogers. On Monday night, investigators could be seen going in and out of the house on Umbria Way.
On Tuesday, Action News went back, to see if Rogers' family had observed any warning signs.
"Go away, get the [expletive] off my property, now!," shouted a male from inside the home.
Meanwhile, the pharmacist held at gunpoint is providing some insight into Rogers' mentality on the day that the bullets started flying.
"He looked at me, and said, today's not your day to die. Today, I'm going to die," added Ricci.
The condition of Anthony Rogers has still not been released. Police also haven't said how many bullets hit his body.
Rogers remains at Sunrise Hospital in the custody of Henderson Police.
On Tuesday afternoon, he was officially charged with five counts of attempted murder and one count of robbery.
