Henderson honored for being a "playful" city
HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) -- A national nonprofit that promotes children's play has named the city of Henderson a Playful City USA Community for the fourth year in a row.
Nonprofit group KaBOOM honored the city's efforts to increase unstructured opportunities for children to play, and to develop programs that combat childhood obesity.
Henderson is one of 151 places recognized as 2011 Playful City USA communities across the country and the only city in Nevada to earn the recognition.
Cities and towns got the honor based on a commitment to physical activity and by developing local action plans to increase the quantity and quality of play in their communities.
